Job Description

that Job Title: Service plumber (Founding Technician) Company: Hot Tanks Inc. Location: Nanaimo and surrounding area Job Type: Full-time, permanent Schedule: Monday to Friday, and/or flexible with Saturday shifts. No Sunday LET’S START WITH YOU… Have you ever: • Finished a call and thought, “That was clean,” before you even got back in the truck? • Looked at a messy install and felt an uncontrollable need to make it right? • Explained an issue so clearly that the client visibly relaxed? • Found yourself teaching a younger tech because you cannot stand watching them struggle? • Wanted to help build the standard instead of working around someone else’s chaos? If you are reading this thinking, “Yep. That’s me,” keep going. THE ROLE: Journeyperson Service Plumber (Founding Field Operations Lead) We are hiring a Journeyperson Service Plumber with a Gas ticket and hot water system experience to become our first technician hire. This is a transitional, build-and-lead role where you: • Run service work at a high level • Build field standards and systems with the Founder • Help bring on junior technicians and train them based on a clear standard • Grow into a supervisory role as the field TEAM grows, if you prove you can build consistency and lead people well Scope includes broader residential service plumbing, with a strong focus on hot water systems. WHAT YOU WILL OWN 1) Field Execution (You run calls and set the example) • Diagnose issues and recommend clear, honest solutions • Complete residential service plumbing repairs and installations safely and to standard • Lead hot water tank replacements and hot water system work as scheduled • Test, verify, and document that systems are operating correctly before you leave • Maintain a clean jobsite and leave each home cleaner than you found it 2) Standards and Quality (You build “how we do it”) You will work directly with the Founder to build and refine: • Workmanship standards for common repairs and installs • Quality control checklists and clear “pass or fail” definitions • Truck stock standards and tool organization expectations • Safety standards and clean jobsite habits • Client communication standards for how we greet, explain, and close jobs 3) Coaching and Training (You develop the field TEAM) • Help design the training path based on real field work • Coach junior technicians in the field, in real time • Reinforce standards without ego, blame, or drama • Support onboarding for the first junior hires quickly and correctly • Help turn good technicians into consistent professionals ABOUT DOCUMENTATION (THIS MATTERS HERE) We take documentation seriously because it prevents call-backs, protects the TEAM, and creates a calm client experience. What we expect from you: • Complete job notes and photos consistently using simple on-phone checklists • Follow the standards every time, even when it is busy What we do for you: • You will not be sitting at a computer writing long manuals • We will build and maintain the written checklists and SOPs with you • Your job is to give field input, test them in real calls, and help improve them If you hate checklists and job notes, this role will not fit. If you like clean work and clean standards, you will love it. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE First 30 Days • High-quality service work with clean job notes and photos • Early draft standards for the most common job types • A repeatable service call flow that matches our brand By 60 Days • Core checklists and “pass or fail” standards in place for key services • Reduced call-backs through consistency, not heroics • A clear plan for the first junior technician hires and training path By 90 Days • A field operating rhythm that is repeatable and teachable • The first junior technician onboarding plan ready and testable • A clear quality control process that protects the TEAM, the client experience, and the culture REQUIREMENTS Must Have • Journeyperson certification • Gas ticket • Strong residential service plumbing experience • Hot water tank and hot water system experience • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record • Calm, professional communication and pride in clean work WHAT YOU GET HERE Compensation and support include: 1. Competitive pay based on experience: $45 to $55 per hour 2. Performance pay each month based on quality and completion 3. Founding-hire upside: eligibility for equity options, earned through performance and role growth 4. Monday to Friday, with optional flexibility for a Saturday shift (as needed) 5. No Sundays 6. Take-home company vehicle 7. Company phone 8. Health benefits 9. Tool allowance 10. Paid time off and paid holidays 11. Ongoing training, mentorship, and clear paths for growth 12. Clear systems and leadership support so you are not forced to “figure it out” alone 13. A TEAM-first environment where standards matter and people are treated with respect A BIT ABOUT US Hot Tanks exists to protect homes, time, and peace of mind through clear systems, consistent execution, and people-first leadership. Here is what that means for you: • The TEAM comes first. We back each other up, and we do not throw people under the bus. • Clients get a calm, consistent experience because we follow the system, every time. • Culture is protected through standards, training, and leadership, not heroics. If you want to help build something real and be proud of the standard, you will fit here. HOW TO APPLY Email your resume and a short cover letter to: workwithus@hottanks.ca Subject line:Journeyperson Service Plumber Application – Your Name In your cover letter, answer these two questions: • What standards would you put in place in your first 30 days to reduce call-backs? • How do you coach a junior technician when they are struggling without crushing their confidence?
