Fortis Mining, Engineering, & Manufacturing is growing, and we're on the lookout for a passionate, detail-driven Welder, who has extensive experience in blueprint reading and fabrication. This role also involves operating manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, as well as accurately interpreting blueprints and welding process specifications to produce high quality work. Shift Schedules Current job opening on: weekend shift Monday - Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm Friday - Sunday, 6:00am to 7:00pm Why You'll Love Working Here Collaboration – complementary Group of Companies servicing the mining and construction industries Innovation– if it doesn't exist, we will engineer and manufacture it Excellence – be a part of an industry leader in quality, safety, & integrity Culture – a diverse team that values collaboration, innovation, and community What You'll Be Doing Fabrication and Welding tasks Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux- cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines Conduct repairs, modifications, and retrofits Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques Adhere and comply with company policies and Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations Maintain safe work practices Travel to jobsite to perform onsite welding and field fits, as required Other duties as assigned Machine inspection and maintenance Maintain and clean all machines and tools Report requirements for repairs to supervisor Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports Processing jobs according to defined company policies and protocols Receive instructions from Welding Supervisor for each job Provide details necessary to administration office for job number assignment Review, understand, and complete work order Follow detailed instructions on the order and ask for clarification prior to starting the job Ensure all parts and components used in the recertification process are recorded to the job number Accurate and detailed tracking of time spent on jobs What You Bring To The Table Valid CWB welding certification, GMAW and SMAW, certified in all positions Minimum of one (1) year experience welding in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred but not required Any safety-related training and certificates would be beneficial, but not required Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent Possess welding and fabrication skills and knowledge Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools Experience with routine maintenance operations Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events Ability to use judgment and apply discretion when making decisions Strong time-management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times What We Offer Support in your career development aspirations Access to courses, certifications, and training programs Mentorship opportunities with experienced professionals and journeypersons Discover pathways for advancement within Northern Strands Group of Companies Health and Wellness Employee group benefits including health, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance Employee perks including wellness and fitness membership discounts 24/7 access to free short-term counselling services through our Employee & Family Assistance Program Compensation Rewards Competitive wage based on qualifications and experience Company-matched RSP to help you plan your future An inclusive culture that values innovation, safety, and continuous learning Ergonomic workstations Team building events and community fundraisers Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Northern Strands Group of Companies is an equal opportunity employer.
