The Colorado Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. Description Of Job
This position is part of our Army National Guard division and will work at our Denver Readiness Center as part of the Facilities Management branch. This position will work as part of a team to support the Facilities Manager and State Maintenance Foreman with journey-level heating and air conditioning assignments. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• journey-level heating and air conditioning inspections, operations, maintenance, repairs, replacements, adjustments, and maximizing equipment performance levels;
• performing service and preventative maintenance on geo-thermal systems, heating and cooling circulation pumps, direct/indirect cooling towers, associated fans, and evaporative air conditioning systems;
• conduct thorough quarterly, semi-annual, and annual PM inspections to include tracking and documenting inspections and completing equipment service logs;
• maintaining, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance inspections on building equipment and structures to include electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry;
• performing grounds duties to include clearing snow and ice, maintaining and repairing sprinkler and drip systems, and operating a variety of equipment;
• performing contractor oversight, coordination, and management;
• performing a variety of administrative functions to include work order tracking, logging and tracking emergency generator hours, ordering parts and supplies within procurement policies, entering work orders and requests in facility management systems, sending invoices and receipts, completing inspection documents, and tracking labor hours against work hours.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights
• Four years of progressively responsible HVAC mechanical experience.
• Possess and maintain a valid and current Colorado Driver's License.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
• Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
• Employment is conditional upon ability to gain and maintain a security clearance within first six months of employment.
• Must be able to be on-site within one hour to respond to emergencies as they occur.
• Must be willing to work 4 days a week, 10 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Must be able to work occasional rotating shift assignments, overtime, and on-call as needed.
• Must be able to work before/after-hours performing snow removal when necessary as a designated "Essential Services" or "Weather/Event" position.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience working with a military branch.
• Universal CFC EPA Certification.
• Prior experience with procurement rules and procedures.
• Membership in the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Associate Member of Facilities Management Profession (FMP) accreditation, member in the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA), Educational Facilities Professional (EFP), or Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP).
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to perform all physical components of position.
• Willingness to learn.
• Computer skills with Microsoft Office software and the ability to work with computerized maintenance and building automation systems.
Conditions of Employment
• Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check (felony or drug convictions are not consistent with base security requirements).
• Able to work additional hours outside of a regular schedule during weather events and available on an as-needed or emergency basis.
• Able to perform strenuous labor.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, reach above the shoulder.
• Ability to constantly lift and carry ten pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to push, pull, have manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, near and far vision, hearing abilities, and be able to verbally communicate with others.
• Ability to work inside and outside, work alone, perform duties in extreme cold/heat, work above ground, work with chemicals/solvents, work around noise and vibrations, walk on uneven surfaces, operate moving equipment/vehicles, climb on a ladder, work in a small and confined space, work with machinery, and work in hazardous conditions.
Substitutions
Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited, non correspondence, vocational or trades school in plumbing/HVAC may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. At the agency's discretion, demonstrated proficiency on position competencies may substitute for the required experience.
