POSITION SUMMARY
The Housing Plumber is responsible for performing skilled plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance work across Band housing units to ensure homes are safe, functional, and maintained to an acceptable standard. The role supports the Housing Department by completing hands-on technical work and coordinating with maintenance staff, contractors, and Housing Administration as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform skilled plumbing work at the journeyman level, including installation, repair, and maintenance of domestic plumbing fixtures and systems.
• Maintain Band Housing units to ensure homes are safe, functional, and in adequate condition.
• Conduct housing and building inspections and identify required maintenance and repair needs.
• Work collaboratively with Maintenance Workers to complete housing-related work.
• Coordinate with Housing Administration regarding required materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Support the coordination of contractors, consultants, and major repairs in collaboration with Housing Administration.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to urgent housing maintenance issues as required.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with LNIB policies, safety standards, funding requirements, and applicable legislation.
• Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Red Seal Plumber certification preferred, with a minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and demonstrated competency.
• Minimum Grade 12 education.
• Demonstrated experience in residential plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance.
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience working with tools and equipment.
• WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain).
• First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between work sites.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Effective time management and task prioritization skills.
• Ability to provide clear direction and instructions when working with others.
• Working knowledge of plumbing systems, building maintenance, and safety practices.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office or similar productivity tools.
• General mathematical and budgeting awareness related to materials and supplies.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position involves a combination of field and administrative work. Work may be physically demanding and occur in all weather conditions. Occasional overtime, evening, weekend, and on-call work may be required to meet operational needs. Frequent interaction with contractors, staff, and managers is expected, along with regular travel between housing sites.
