Job Description
Position Purpose: To maintain all heating, water, gas, drainage, and air exchange systems (HVAC) in good order and
perform other related duties as required. All work is to be carried out in accordance with hospital
procedures, directives and policies, infection control/containment practices, building codes and bylaws,
legislation, regulations and established trade standards, fire and safety practices, plans,
specifications and manufacturer’s manuals.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the plumbing trade by the Ontario Ministry of
Training, Colleges and Universities
• Steam Fitter Certification preferred
• Proven experience working with hot water, steam and air exchange systems (HVAC)
• Experience in a Maintenance Plumber role in a health care setting preferred
Position Responsibilities:
• Maintain & monitor heating, water, gas, drainage and air exchange systems to ensure proper
operation by taking and recording daily reading of boilers, vacuum system, domestic hot water
supply, and HVAC units
• Maintain & monitor rooftop chiller and automated chemical system to ensure is maintained at
the designated levels
• Operate Emergency Generator with Electrician as required to ensure proper operation;
lubricating and recording data related to emergency generator
• Check and lubricate all pumps, fans and motors in the heating and air exchange systems
(HVAC) in accordance with the department preventive maintenance schedule or as required
• Check and lubricate sewage/storm water pumps
• Provide welding and brazing services as required
• Plans, prepares layouts, reports material and technical needs for own work assignments;
submits for approval, estimates of materials, labour, feasibility of repairs or projects and
purchase requests.
• Conducts, plans and participates in the development of hospital wide preventive maintenance
programs, work schedules, and maintains records as directed
